> WHO IS JESTONE
JesTone is a hip-hop production duo hailing from both Kansas City and New Orleans consisting of Joshua "Jes" Smith and Anthony "Tone" Lonon. As fate would have its way, the two met in the fall of 1989 at a family party; an evening they both distinctly remember.“ "We actually met each other through a heated dancing battle,"” said Jes. These two cousins came together to form JesTonebeats in 2006, and till this day, they still both share that same competitive spirit in their creative process. JesTone has been experimenting with music since they were both 13. After mourning the loss of their older cousin Gary Dameron, a music artist/producer, their Aunt gave them Gary's Yamaha PSR-510 keyboard. With no musical training, this keyboard is what ultimately lit the wick of this beat-banging duo. What started as another hobby to pass time transformed into a career in music for the duo.
JesTone is not your average production duo. Holding bold confidence and fierce swag, JesTone has overcome all odds and the many adversities within the music business. "We have a unique confidence in our work. You do not get very far in this music biz without exuding strong confidence in your work,"” said Tone. They refer to themselves as the “"2-headed monster" due to a range of music that is so versatile that it's scary. They can go from using heavy strings, weird synth pads, and monstrous drums in hip-hop beats to adding rhythmic synths and steady bass kicks to a techno/house club track. From composing original music for TV commercials to fashion shows, JesTone continues to display their widely-stretched, uncommon range.
" We like to think outside of the box by using and creating our own unique sounds. We pride ourselves in our ability to create different genres of music. Our style ranges from hip-hop/R&B, dance, pop, fashion to electronica. We might even throw in a little 80s funk. Of course not everyone will not be a fan of our music, but we feel that as long as we continue to make good quality music, then our goal has been accomplished.” - JesTone
Good quality music is exactly why JesTone is quickly establishing a name for themselves, both locally and nationally. Their first hit single, "Move,"” featuring Ashley Nicole gained great reviews in dance clubs and radio stations across the nation. Shortly after the success of "Move," JesTone caught the attention of Malik Yusef, an artist on Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label. They earned 3 spots on Malik's 2-disc international album entitled “ Kanye West & Malik Yusef Present G.O.O.D. Morning, G.O.O.D. Night” which made its debut in 2009.
While producing music at a fashion show for Susan G. Komen for the cure, the duo made contact with Envision Studio. The two entities first collaborated on a video project for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York 2010. Through their unique style of music, they quickly gained the respect of Envision Studio. Since then, the two entities have worked on a substantial amount of video projects for clients from Miami to Chicago. With both powers combined, you can expect to see more great high-end projects from this “"A-Team."
JesTone is a force to be reckoned with. At the rate they're going and with the demand for their music, it's apparent that JesTone is well on the way to being one of the biggest production duos of the new era.
